Fairbanks Snow Stats Through February 6th, 2014

With the 4.3" of new snow today (2/6/2014) the prolonged snow drought is temporarily over. The season-to-date snow total is up to 40.2"; which is still 9.8" below the 1981-2010 normal for the date. Not a single day this winter has been seen a season-to-date snow total at or above the normal value. Anchorage has only spent two days above their normal value. The first chart below shows the season-to-date snowfall for every winter in Fairbanks since 1920-1921. All years are thin gray lines except for the current season (red), the normal value (black), and two composite values representing the max and min values for the date.

As we mentioned here and here, Fairbanks has a habit of being below normal in season-to-date snowfall but at or above normal for snow depth. The second chart below shows the current season-to-date snow depth and the normal season-to-date snow depth. Only a few days since November 10th have been below the normal value and it looks to stay that way for a while.
